Fighting a losing battle – Leopards in Rajaji National Park

My last sighting in Rajaji NationalPark was this Leopard sitting on a wall next to the pilgrimage city of Haridwar. A pensive look on his face, questioning me, “You guys are making homes right here, where do we go? Will my future generations be able to withstand this urbanization? It seemed he had the premonition of the inevitable. But, I told him that there are some people working to save your home, the forests. The times ahead are as tough for those trying to save you as they are tough for you my friend, continue being resilient. I remembered lines of Harivansh Rai Bachchan;

“लहरों से डर कर नौका पार नहीं होती,
कोशिश करने वालों की कभी हार नहीं होती।”

Meaning: A boat cannot reach the shores if it is scared of the waves, and people who try, never fail!
